Topic > Wal-Mart - 1180

Everyone in America knows that at Wal-Mart they can find most of their basic items at the best prices. However, due to stakeholder expectations on the stock market and the minimal growth observed over the past year, Wal-Mart has decided to focus on a new segment of the market. They have developed a strategy on how to attract the exclusive customer, keeping our land clean and keeping prices low. They decided to add some luxury lines to their product line to attract the high-end customer. To stay on top of the competitive market, planning ahead and keeping up with trends is important for any organization. They decided to add some luxury lines to their product line to attract the high-end customer. (Lavelle, Marianne p.36-38) This is done in an attempt to attract all classes, thus bringing in more revenue and increasing the value of shareholders' shares. The goal: close the gap with discount competitors like Target Corp., whose flashier merchandise and trendy stores attract the biggest spenders (Barbaro 2005). By increasing the quality of its merchandise, Wal-Mart can become a direct competitor with other discount stores. They don't just look at the quality of the merchandise, but also the overall presentation of the store. They are also looking to install laminate wood flooring in the "garment departments of the new stores to evoke the interior of a boutique." (Barbarian 2005)
