Topic > Government Restrictions on Child Labor - 796

Child LaborWhat if your son or daughter worked in a large factory, breathing in harmful chemicals and losing fingers in machinery? Would that suit you? I highly doubt you would be. Factory conditions can be terrible, dangerous and unhealthy for children who work there for long periods of time. These children can contract respiratory problems, diseases and many other conditions, just from working there. These things would happen if the government never stepped in and made rules. I therefore believe that the government should be allowed to limit child labor, including hours, pay, education requirements. Without government restrictions, one event that would occur is that our children would work for a long time, getting paid less than everyone else. other. Our children could do the same jobs that adults do or should do, but be paid much less. “Nearby, nine-year-old Cristina works alongside five family members, including siblings and cousins. This is his second weekend in the fields and he is struggling to keep up with the others. Together, the six hope to earn $100 for a full day's work, which averages out to about $2 for every hour worked. More than a dozen other children work in the same camp. They bend down to cut and pick onions. Exhaustion paints their faces as they carry heavy buckets into canvas bags placed around the camp. Children earn about a cent for every kilo of onions harvested” (Child Labor Stories). This implies that children do significantly harder work than the average middle class job and are paid as if it were worthless. These children should be paid the same as adults, because they work even harder than... middle of the paper... because they work long, hard hours, they would not be very educated, which would then make it difficult to do non-work work in the future, and they would spend almost all the money they earned just on feeding themselves. This means that if they want to help with the family income, they may have to give up meals to survive. If we had restrictions, we wouldn't have to deal with them and would therefore make life much easier and safer for all of us. Works Cited "Thomas Jefferson Quote." Clever quote. Xplore and Web.
