In 2006 the band was able to work together and write a new album with a new rock influence that told fans that the Dixie Chicks would no longer take the hate from both fans and media on the situation and would react. In the song "Not Ready to Make Nice", the band led by Natalie Maines, sings about being unrepentant for their previous actions now, that they were still angry and would no longer be mild and sorry but they say they wouldn't forget and how they has influenced. This is a protest song about their treatment, about staying angry about the situation and no longer being sorry about what happened and how they are moving forward. While this song doesn't publicly call out anyone or talk about anything specific, it eludes the situation more in the song's music video, as well as when the song is taken in the context of their history as a group.
