In Long Beach California, they were the first to prove that school uniforms actually reduce the amount of violence. With a 51% drop in physical fights, a 34% drop in assaults, a 50% drop in gun crimes and a 32% drop in suspensions. They introduced school uniforms in 1996 and have since reduced the amount of violence at school. School uniforms should be used to stop violence because no one should be beaten because their clothing looks bad or because it is easier to form gangs, students should not be forced to protect themselves by bringing a gun to school, students should be able to come to school safely and without violence. A total of 85 students died violently in US schools, with 75% of the incidents involving firearms. A couple of school students were given the opportunity to decide whether or not they wanted to wear uniforms, and less than 1% of students chose not to. Students prefer to wear sometimes hideous uniforms rather than risk their lives. Wearing a school uniform is obviously child's play compared to being armed with fire, but in some cases some students, like the 1% who chose not to, would rather risk their lives. Wearing school uniforms could save students' lives and make schools a less violent and safe place
