“Remember the Titans” is an inspiring story about racial harmony within a high school football team in the 1970s, teaching us to respect each other for what we are and not how we look. This wonderful film is based on the true story of an African-American football coach, Herman Boone, who was hired by a Virginia high school in 1971 to replace Bill Yoast Couch. Neither is happy with the situation, but Couch Bill Yoast agrees to work as Coach Boone's assistant. Gerry Bertier, who is the captain of the team, does not want black players in the team and other members of the team also have difficulty getting used to the new black players. Not only do they have to get used to each other, but the community is also working against them, which makes the situation worse. (IMDB, 2000) Gregory Allen Howard, the writer of the screenplay, did a fantastic job writing this film. Boaz Yakin is the director of this film, he has won and been nominated numerous awards. He was very smart in choosing Denzel Hayes Washington as one of his actors to play the role of Couch Boone. I wasn't surprised by how amazingly he handled his role since he has been nominated for many awards himself, here are just a few examples; he won the Oscar Academy Awards in the Best Actor category for Training Day (2002), He received a nomination for the Oscar category as Best Actor for Malcolm X (1990), he won the Oscar category for Best Supporting Actor for Gloria African-American Film Critics Association Awards (2012) and won the AAFCA Award Best Actor category for Flight. (Aceshowbiz, 2014) Another of its actors was Will Paton who played the role of coach Bill Yoast. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in “The Postman” (1998) and… middle of the card… that won't happen until after the games. Other than that there were just a few changes that weren't that major. (IMDB, 2000) Remember the Titans takes us on an emotional roller coaster that will capture our hearts. The characters captivate the audience in this magical film by respecting each other for who they are. As we watch, we see all the actors put all their emotions into a film that we can see as meaningful to them. Keeping in mind that this film is based on a true story, we look to the cast to connect with us. Denzel Washington does a great job of always staying in character. So yes I would recommend you to watch this movie, this movie can really change a person if they let it. When we see this touching film we don't just see a screen but we see actors who really care and play a film that also has meaning for them. (IMDB, 2000)
