The NBA Should Impose a Harsh Salary Cap How many of you sports fans out there are sick of paying twenty-five dollars for a crappy seat at a NBA game? NBA? How many of you are tired of seeing the same teams in the final every year? I'm sure there are thousands of you out there who feel this way, like me. The way we can solve these problems is to ask the NBA to impose a strict salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices, allow more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of future lockouts. If the three things listed above aren't met, it's hard to say whether the NBA will survive. I want to see the NBA survive, but not the way things are run now. A hard salary cap is the only way fans and players can coexist. A hard salary cap will lower ticket prices. I, among many friends, am a die-hard NBA fan, but we can only afford to attend one or two games a year. The average ticket price in the NBA is twenty-five dollars and that doesn't include binoculars, which you'll need if you're sitting in a twenty-five dollar seat. This can give you an idea of how much a court seat might cost you. Some people wonder why tickets cost so much. Perhaps Mike Kahn, executive editor of CBS Sportsline, can tell us why ticket prices are so high. In one of his articles he observes. Player salaries are growing faster than revenue and it would be foolish not to put a stop to it. Tickets are already out of sight for a middle class family. ( 2 ) What this means to me is that players are asking for more and more money and that ticket prices have to increase to compensate for the higher salaries. In the Tampa Tribune, Bill Fay, a sports writer for the paper, noted. Most teams that have a mid-card salary cap will provide an answer to some of the most serious problems plaguing the NBA. It will reduce ticket prices, allow more teams to be more competitive and eliminate any future lockouts. If these problems can be solved by imposing a rigid salary cap, I see no reason why it shouldn't be done. The NBA should impose a strict salary cap.
