Topic > Image of the homeless in the image of the homeless by Mark Peterson

In the image, the box in the lower left corner reads: Handle with care. This ironically shows how neglected this man is, as well as how fragile. This also shows how he has no family around him unlike the people on the back of the photo. Another satirical thing that can be observed is the name on the boxes which is Jerzees. This is a less expensive sports company. This shows how man cannot afford Nike, Adidas or any other expensive branded sports equipment, which constantly reminds him of what he cannot have. The viewer can also see a Burger King sign on the back of the image. Burger King's slogan does not apply to this social class at all. The sign incongruously reminds the reader how the homeless man cannot “have his own way.” Peterson's use of ironic statements makes the viewer reflect on every time they passed a homeless person and didn't stop to see if they were okay. Every day, people face difficult financial times, and often people living in prosperous areas persistently overlook the indisputable struggle of less well-off countries.
