The Wedding ProjectOne of the most significant days in a person's life is their wedding day! To ensure that such an important event runs smoothly, proper planning is required. And when it comes to wedding planning, choosing your partner may very well be the simplest of all the planning decisions you make. Months will be spent before the wedding researching vendors, comparing products and prices, meeting with photographers, hotel managers, and many other wedding vendors to determine how to save costs on each wedding item (Hammond, 2007). “The absence of a clearly defined project plan consistently presents itself as the primary reason for project failure” (Gray & Lawson, 2005, p. 118). Without an implementation plan that outlines budgets, how important tasks should be organized, and what the contingencies are in case something goes wrong, what should be one of the happiest days of someone's life could turn into a complete disaster. “The success of your entire day depends on your ability to organize, plan, and budget” (Hammond, 2007, para. 1). Table 1 lists a breakdown of the main activities and subactivities needed to implement a wedding project. There are numerous interested parties in a wedding project. Naturally the spouses are the major stakeholders. But also included in this list of stakeholders will be the family of the bride and groom, members of the wedding party (maid of honor, maid of honor, best man and groomsmen), wedding guests, wedding vendors (florist, musicians, caterers, pastry chefs, tailors, venue managers) and the officiant.
