Despite the morbid and dark tone that Charles Dickens gave to the rest of the novel, the rewritten ending fits well into the surrounding context because the reader is able to understand better understanding the development of Estella's character, is much more conclusive than the original and reveals more about the growth of Pip's character and traits. Throughout the novel, Estella is perceived as a cold-hearted reptile, but this is contradicted in Charles Dickens' rewritten ending, when she is instead written to have become much more open and affectionate towards Pip, exemplifying his growth and development of the character. Although Great Expectations primarily revolves around Pip's adventures and misfortunes, the novel also largely centers on Estella. As the story progresses and although Pip's experiences begin to shape his character, Estella's character is also shaped along with Pip's, and the second ending provides the reader with more information about this development and change. Estella is shown to be much more dynamic and rounded instead of blunt and cruel. The reader is able to recognize Estella's changed and developed character when she converses with Pip and offers him the “friendly touch of her once callous hand.” Through these actions the reader is given greater insight into Estella's transformation as a human being. Her new kindness towards Pip makes sense because at this point in her life, Miss Havisham's teachings on cruelty are immensely worn by time and experience. Estella's lessons about "evil" and a certain selfishness don't last; and so it would make sense that she would change her attitude towards Pip as a result of this. While Estella represents......a central character......round and dynamic character. Through Pip's actions and Estella's perspective, despite her harsh life, the audience can easily observe and recognize the changes and development of Pip's character traits. All in all, over the course of the novel, although a rather dark and dark tone is set, the rewritten ending fits well into the surrounding context because the reader is able to better understand Estella's character development, it is much more conclusive than the It's original and reveals more about Pip's character growth and traits. All of these aspects, revealing more information about Pip and Estella, provide the reader with a sense of completion and security. The “happy ending” of Great Expectations ties the entire novel together in an elliptical path, satisfying the reader's great expectations..
