When it comes to choosing a major in college, it is important to choose a major that you will enjoy working in for part of your life. How is this decision made? There are several factors that play a role in choosing a specialization; or at least there was for me. When I looked into business for my intended major, the first thing that came to mind was not whether I would like to work in some sort of business environment because already new I would like it. Instead I looked at other aspects or values that a business degree offers. More importantly, I examined what focus I wanted in business. I chose the accounting side of business for several reasons. One reason is because I like working with numbers. I like setting up budgets and different types of financial statements and seeing it all work together with that aspect of the business. One of the benefits of specializing in accounting is that the demand for accountants is high and likely won't change. According to the Princeton Review website, the accounting profession will grow very rapidly, and due to all the different types of accounting needed to meet the needs of various businesses, the need for an accountant will always be there (Basics). Another advantage to obtaining an accounting degree from most other business degrees is that, according to the AICPA, an accounting degree is a degree that offers the full range of possibilities in business society. As well stated in an AICPA publication, “Accounting opens doors to every type of business coast to coast.” Accounting deals with aspects relating to the preparation of financial statements and budgets for companies as well as other career path opportunities, but why... half of the paper... environments, the remuneration of services and the fiduciary assignment are in me just some of the values I have that derive from specialization. Being an accountant is considered a respectable field to engage in and is also a path that, in my opinion, leads to professional success. Job Cited “Accounting: Job Options.” Careers in Accounting.
