Topic > Racism is here to stay in America - 1674

I grew up knowing my great-great grandmother, born in 1906. She would tell me about growing up when I was a child. He would tell me about how his family faced racism at its height. He was the lightest member of his family, almost blending in with the whites. Therefore, he had to go to the city to sell food at the markets because it was too dangerous. He told me of hangings and murders that remained unsolved, but everyone knew who did it. It taught me that the color of my skin mattered more than I thought at the time. When he died, I remember holding in my hand a poem he wrote, Never Forget Who You Are. I learned that the world is made up of ignorance, hatred and no honor. In the 1960s, the civil rights movement made white society accept the black community. The Supreme Court has drafted laws that make minorities equal. These laws do not change the opinions of those who are dominant in this country. I believe racism is here to stay because, through the teachings of this world, white people are dominant and minorities are not. Allow me to introduce the words that have put this country to shame. Racism means ill will toward other races and expresses that ill will in words or actions (Zack, 2006). Injury means injury or harm resulting from some judgment or action of another. A stereotype refers to a derogatory idea towards all members of the group, regardless of individual differences (Zack, 2006). These three words have existed for a long time throughout history causing chaos within races which only leads to institutional racism. Institutional racism means formal practices and traditions in social organizations that harm some racial groups or deny them the same opportunities as other racial groups (Zack, 2006). Therefore, an e...... middle of paper ...... of Black ancestry or non-White ancestry presents a special type of imperfection on mixed races (Zack, 2006). Thus, Obama lives according to his black ancestors; regardless, it is seen as an imperfection of his mixed racial heritages. It takes into consideration the aspect of ethnicity. This brings to my other reason his strong beliefs in black culture. He married a completely African American woman even though she was raised by a white woman. He celebrates his love of black history by hosting celebrations. He learned his black culture and with his physical traits. He can be accepted by the community as a black president.
