Many teens of this generation struggle with drug abuse. Drug abuse is the habit of taking addictive or illegal substances. When they use them they can cause serious health problems. It can also ruin a life. What drives some teenagers to use drugs? Many factors contribute to the main causes of drug abuse, some are: easy access, social acceptance and emotional problems. Why is substance abuse on the rise among teenagers? Teens become curious about experimenting with drugs when they hear and see them. It is possible for a teenager to feel that a drug is fun and could easily make a person feel good and behave differently. A teenager might have had a close friend or family member who used drugs, and as the teenager saw someone close to them acting strangely, they became curious and decided they wanted to see what it was like for themselves. Some of the places a teen can find or obtain a substance are the most common places. Many teenagers have easy access to drugs at home. “Teens say they can get prescription drugs more easily than beer, marijuana, etc.” (Friedman) “Teens who know prescription drug abusers say 34 percent get them from their parents, at home or in the medicine cabinet. The remaining 31 percent said they get them from friends or classmates.” (Friedman) The study shows that teenagers have very easy ways to get drugs. Even easier for children to get drugs when their parents are not responsible liquor. Maybe there should be a lock on the medicine cabinet.” Says CASA President Joseph Califano Jr. (Friedman) Parents can also choose to help their children be aware by teaching them how drugs are dangerous and harmful a parent's job is... at the heart of the paper... of society, but it also starts with them The easy access, trying to fit in, and our emotional problems are all something we can deal with and take care of on our own .
