“The demand for clinical and counseling psychologists will increase as people continue to turn to psychologists to solve or manage their problems. More psychologists will be needed to help people deal with problems such as depression and other mental disorders, marriage and family problems, work stress and addiction. Psychologists will also be needed to provide services to an aging population, helping people deal with the mental and physical changes that occur as they age. Psychological services are also needed for veterans suffering from war trauma, survivors of other trauma, and people with autism (“Psychologists”). The median annual wage for psychologists was $69,280 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half of the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and the other half earned less. The lowest 10% earned less than $38,720, and the highest 10% earned more than $110,880 (“Psychologists”).” Although those who work in psychology receive a salary that provides a fairly comfortable lifestyle, there is no price that can be placed on the happiness that comes from being able to make a difference in someone else's life. It is this reason that strikes me personally. Growing up with few friends and even fewer people I trusted, I had no one to turn to when things got heavy on my younger shoulders. AS
