Do you ever plan to get married someday in the near future? Most will answer yes, well if you do it wouldn't hurt to know that the divorce rate is over 50%! Marriage, sacred to religion and respected by older generations, does not always last forever, over the last fifty years the divorce rate has increased by more than half of all marriages ending in divorce. There are many factors as to why two people get divorced and its effects on the adults and children in the family. In my opinion, the three main effects of divorce are the loss of feelings of ex-lovers, economic problems and love issues. Many people don't see the huge effects that a high divorce rate can have on the economy, on the lives of children and on the lives of an ex-spouse. I believe that if people didn't rush into marriage and gained a better understanding and appreciation for lifelong commitment, then the divorce rate would drop below 50%. One of the main effects is the impact on children. When two people get married and divorced, it is not good at all, in fact it is very bad. But the only people affected by this situation are the two people who got married. But most people start a family as soon as they get married. And if they divorce after starting a family, the children will be hurt when the divorce occurs—it's just unnecessary suffering for the child who is less at fault. There are several studies that show that children of intact families are less prone to drug use” (Fagan). ii. “Research shows that this permanently weakens the relationship between the child and his parents and leads to destructive ways of dealing with conflict and a poorer self-image” (Fagan). “First, children growing up in an intact two-parent family with both biological pa...... middle of paper ......m Implications for children.” Family trials 46.1 (2007): 53-65.
