IntroductionWal-Mart Stores Inc. is in the discount and variety store business. It was founded in 1945 in Bentonville, Arkansas, which is also home to Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart operates both locally and globally. As of January 31, 2006, it operated 1209 discount stores, 1980 super centers and 567 Sam's Clubs. It has also expanded its operations to many international countries. It operates its retail stores in two forms: Sam's Club and Wal-Mart Stores. Sam's Club sells assorted product lines such as hardware, electronics, and jewelry to name a few. Wal-Mart stores also offer similar products in addition to the following: health and beauty products, clothing for women, men and children, appliances, etc. (www.yahoo.finance.com). Vision statement, mission statement, values and code of conduct, corporate governance: directors, executive management, committees and stakeholders will be the key elements that will be discussed in this report in relation to Wal-Mart. Additionally, major trends in the general/macro environment and industry will be analyzed. Vision Statement Wal-Mart has been one of the most successful companies in the world. Wal-Mart's success can be traced to its vision statement regarding globalization. According to Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson in their textbook "Strategic Management", a vision statement is a statement that describes the organization and outlines what the organization wants to achieve in the future (19). Therefore, vision statements focus on implementing strategies and decisions that pave the way for a successful business in the future. Wal-Mart now operates globally and its main vision is for further global expansion of operations and “promoting ethical culture ownership”. " to all its stakeholders in the world (www.walmartstores.com). The idea of Wal-Mart's vision on ethical culture is crucial in globalization. Wal-Mart has a good reputation and competitive advantage all over the world because it is been able to embrace culture and diversity in its operations across nations. In promoting ethical culture, Wal-Mart helps its customers and stakeholders make the right decisions and do the right thing. Mission Statement Currently , Wal-Mart does not have a formal mission statement, but its core mission can be tied to its (3 ) core beliefs which are respect for the individual, customer service, and commitment to excellence ( www.walmartfacts.com).Therefore, based on its core values and beliefs, Wal-Mart's mission is focused on providing exceptional service and "everyday low prices" to its customers...
