Graphic design. An ever-growing and ever-evolving field. Graphic design has changed greatly over the years and still continues to change. As technology evolves and trends change, those who make a living designing need to change themselves and their design style. While trends alone do not determine how graphic design changes, it is also changed by studies conducted to learn how and what colors and shapes make us want to have or do something. Graphic design, an art form called the art of creating something through text, space and design. While not what it once was, the graphic design can even be dated to the Lascaux caves, cave walls with animal images dating back around 17,000 years. While it is not graphic design as it is commonly seen today, it is considered, in a sense, graphic design since it is a painted image, albeit without the same intentions as those who design graphics for logos and other mediums. These caves can be seen as a place where planning may have begun, but from there, through the expansion of man, planning has become increasingly complex. It has become more digitized and made via computers. Graphic design was often used in books, with fonts and images used, a good example of this is the Book of Kells which uses graphic design on some pages. Graphic design is now at the point of being used every day by large corporations and small family businesses. It is used to represent something greater than oneself and become the symbol of the entire entity. An example of this can be seen when someone is asked to think of McDonald's, many would think of the golden arches that we recognize from miles away before we can see the building or even read... the middle of the paper. .....studies thus conducted on how zero space can improve the appearance of a logo and can even send subliminal messages to those who view it. A good example of this is the FedEx logo, between the E and the X you can see an arrow. This can represent many different things to different people, but generally gives the idea that the arrow takes you where you need to go, just as FedEx takes your package where it needs to go. You can see all these different studies implemented in everyday life. Some examples of how these are used continuously around us are, for how color affects us, the McDonald's witch logo is red and yellow, also there are golden arches which are so iconic that they are recognized more than the Christian cross, Burger King , which uses red and Wendy's which uses red and yellow. Even for zero space, as mentioned before, FedEx is a famous company to use it.
