Natural disasters can severely harm communities and must be adequately prepared for. Minority groups in the low-income population are generally at greater risk of experiencing natural disasters than other groups. This is largely due to the fact that low-income populations do not trust the government and that traditional methods using social media have proven ineffective on them. To address this issue, the authors applied the grassroots approach and created the Guide to Improving Risk Communication Among Low-Income Populations. The grassroots system uses community, faith-based, and business organizations that serve low-income minorities. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Morgan State University's School of Community Health and Policy worked together in two phases to create the guide as part of the Grassroots Risk Communication (GRC) project. The guide consisted of four chapters that discussed the principles needed to operate the basic system and the risk communication issues faced by low-income populations. The article was quite interesting and received a lot of praise....
