Topic > Personality Characteristics of Introverts and Extroverts

There are two main theories that help identify a person's personality type, introvert or extrovert. These ideas became popular due to: Carl Jung, also believed that people at different times showed both characteristics of introvert and extrovert. Most people are neither introverted nor extroverted, they share a mix of characteristics that define an introvert or an extrovert. An introvert is a person who gathers their energy from within and requires alone time and prefers to communicate via email and writing. and perhaps when texting they seem to prefer not to talk face to face and are not great public speakers. Introverts are often said to be reserved. They are often said to enjoy the quiet and this is what is said to stimulate and energize them. They are often thinkers and tend to think things through before acting. It is often said that they do not socialize as well as extroverts, and it is often said that they do not like large crowds and prefer to be alone. There are great characteristics associated with what is considered introverted, such as being a thinker. Someone who thinks carefully before acting is more than likely to make rational decisions. It is also very important to have time alone to reflect on oneself because if one continually draws one's energy from another, it is more than likely that one will have disappointments and will never learn to create a balanced life. If a person were completely introverted, they would most likely be very unhappy at work and in other situations where they would constantly interact with people. Other people may not understand them completely because they tend to be reserved and this can make it difficult to form friendships....... middle of paper ...... I often think before I speak but I often think about things before I speak. My husband is an example of someone who shares many of the characteristics of the introvert but still displays some of the characteristics of the extrovert such as being a great public speaker. He is reserved but likes to socialize with people and does not mind being in crowds, prefers to spend time alone for self-reflection and enjoys quiet and is a deep thinker, has many of the characteristics of an introvert but is still a a little extroverted. Many people in our society share the attributes of both introverts and extroverts, to me this seems to create a balanced individual. I believe there are people who tend to lean one way or the other, but for the most part people tend to have a mix of elements that define an introvert or an extrovert.
