From 1939 to 1945, most of the world's nations were part of a long and deadly six-year war, World War II. These include two great powers, Great Britain and the United States. Millions of people died around the world, declaring World War II the most expansive war to date. The Holocaust and the use of nuclear weapons resulted in such a high death toll. The nations were in a state of “total war,” involving not only the military but the entire nation. Civilians aggressively helped support their military, creating a home front and making a significant impression on the outcome of the war. Rationing, defense and manpower were concerns for governments; and made any economic and industrial changes to support their efforts in helping their nation and military.
