“Life was like a box of chocolates” Run your hands over the ribbed structure of the box wrapper, pinching the edge, until you create a small tear. Then you slide your fingers inside and tear it apart, your taste buds being pushed to the limits of deprivation. You turn inside and see a chocolate that makes your mouth water. This is what you've been waiting for. This is a time of indulgence. A famous quote in the movie Forrest Gump said: “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you'll get. (Forrest Gump 3:39) This is an accurate description of how different a path life can take. I have learned through trial and error that it is important for us to live in the moment. This remains a constant goal, as all moments will change as time passes. Therefore, learning this will be attributed to my personal continued happiness. “Don't think about what can happen in a month. Don't think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be. ” – Eric Thomas David G. Myers deduces “People emphasize the 'pursuit of happiness' and underestimate the 'happiness pursuit'” (479). In other words, life is the journey and in reality the final destination is, unfortunately , our end. So let's value every second as we venture into our life and be aware that no matter what the current situation is, time will always pass, there are small moments in life that can be overlooked and forgotten quickly. Our goal should be to consciously stay in the present, absorbing all the joy that may lie in our daily journey. As we strive to enjoy the little things in life, we create a world where...... in between of paper… we want in life, unless of course we decide that is ultimately not what we want Instead of having a mindset where you feel the need to plod through these tasks and think of nothing but finish, learn to make the best of a perhaps boring situation and unwanted. So, in fact, life is like a box of chocolates. Once opened, you are able to sift through all your options, and perhaps by means of a random wish, or perhaps fate choosing to subtly intervene, one is chosen. Now the choice is ours. We choose to keep and consume the rich, chewy caramel that we are sure will stick to our teeth; a continuous sweet and succulent memory of our previous choice? Or will we simply put the tempting chocolate aside and decide that it's not what we want right now or in our lives? We have the freedom to decide; the present is ours to live in.
