Topic > Pros and Cons of School Shootings - 1012

You're running around making sure your child has everything they need for school before they get on the bus. Then they shoot out the door like a gunshot: “Hi, I love you,” you scream. Then, when they get on the bus, they look back and say goodbye. About halfway through the day you hear that something has happened at one of the schools, you turn on the television to try to catch the news. Then there it is, "BREAKING NEWS" this is when you learn it was your child's school. So you run out of the house and when you get to school you see police cars, ambulances, fire trucks and press vans everywhere. Ask another parent, “What happened?” they look at you and say someone brought a gun to school and started shooting at our kids. From 1996 to 2014 there were 57 school shootings. There were 22 shootings without statistics, 24 of the shooters were under the age of 18, this is almost half of the total shooters during this period. (Pearson Education) There are several organizations that are trying to say that no one should be allowed into a school while carrying a concealed weapon. When in reality this is the very reason why criminals choose our schools to curb the terror of our children. If we place restrictions on law-abiding citizens, the only guns that will enter schools will be those carried by criminals. As you can see from the statistics I provided, nearly half of shooters were not old enough to legally purchase a gun. That said, no matter what laws we change or what restrictions we place on gun purchases, if a criminal wants a gun, he'll get one. A person legally carrying a weapon could alter the outcome of the event. All of these shootings occurred after the no-gun law went into effect......middle of paper......students under the age of 18, meaning they couldn't legally purchase a gun anyway from fire. So ask yourself: Why would we willingly put our children in harm's way? Or wouldn't you feel better knowing that there is a teacher who has your child in class armed with a firearm? And while they have the children behind them, they have a gun pointed at the only entrance to their room. So when the bad guy decides to make that classroom a target as he enters the room, he encounters enough resistance to stop the shooter right there. Either the killer is eliminated or, if they survive the encounter, they leave and your children will live for many more years to come. Or would you rather the only people who can save your kids are the police, and as we've learned, they can take up to 11 minutes to respond. You don't think the choice is obvious??
