Ineffective MeetingsIntroductionI once read a famous quote by Dave Barry that said, "If I had to identify in one word, why the human race has not, and will never, reach its full potential , they would be meetings. Imagine you're sitting in a room full of colleagues at work and suddenly the meeting adjourns and you have no idea what happened and you're unable to articulate what you learned from the interaction believe it or not, this is commonplace for many individuals in organizations today, so why c Is there such a feeling of disconnection and discontent in them? I would say the reason is due to the ineffectiveness of the meeting. Context I currently work as a customer service manager for AXA-Equitable. It is an asset management company with operations around the world. I work in the National Operations Center in their Call Center. Our Call Center consists of 4 front line managers who have a span of control of approximately 25 customer service representatives. The 4 first line managers report to the Division Director, who reports directly to the Head of Department. Staff meetings are scheduled bi-weekly at the same time, in the presence of first line managers and the division manager. The agenda is generally sent in advance with the topics that will be covered in the time allotted for each item. We rely on this time together to receive updates on the business, to include new initiatives or upcoming changes. Furthermore, this is an opportunity for us to collaborate… middle of paper… the team suffers because it is unable to capitalize on the thoughts and ideas of all parties. In conclusion, ineffective meetings can have a significant negative impact on an organization. This impact can range from a lack of knowledge due to inefficiencies, lost productivity, employee disengagement and limited problem-solving opportunities. Managers are the link between the organization and its employees. They are tasked with effectively communicating the company's goals and objectives to their respective teams. Given the magnitude of this responsibility, it is critical that organizations provide their leaders with the proper training and tools to successfully complete such a daunting task effectively.
