Instead the technology is used all the time and users are so distracted that they don't see any harm being done. Technology is constantly updating and producing new things, the reason for this is because technology is not perfect. This therefore means that there is always room for change and improvement. There are still flaws in the technology, including problems like printer jams, internet crashes, and dropped phone calls. Why, despite all these flaws, do people still turn excessively to technology? Turkle talks about people wanting to have a robotic relationship instead of a real human relationship. It's about a girl who wanted to "swap her boyfriend" for a sophisticated Japanese robot "if the robot produced what she called 'thoughtful behavior'... She was looking for a 'risk-free relationship' that would take away loneliness." (Turkle 269-270) This may make you doubt, in the same way that technological devices always need improvement, robots will not need improvement at some point The robot may make a mistake or even not have the new features and improved than a human. These characteristics may include the ability to have a meaningful conversation rather than a conversation limited to a written vocabulary.
