(XI.785-787) Patroclus had a unique relationship with Achilleus. In a way, he is like an older brother because of his age. He tries to take advantage of this aspect of their relationship when he unsuccessfully tries to convince Achilleus to join the war, much like when Phoenix unsuccessfully attempted to use his paternal status in his favor. When he fails in this, he resorts to being the inferior of the two, in a sort of after-son relationship. Many times when a father is not able to carry out his role as head of the family, the son tries to take his place a child who tries to put himself in his father's shoes, Patroclus tries to take Achilles' place by wearing his armor and trying to fight in his place. The armor doesn't fit Patroklos, but to save the Achaeans he tries to use it anyway. In this way Achilleus indirectly causes the death of Patroclus. Achilleus could have made many decisions between the span of his fight with Agamemnon and the death of Patroklos that could have spared his life. If he had acted accordingly towards
