But "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? And Other Conversations About Race" by Beverly Daniel Tatum, the entire topic of the book is just that, racism and prejudice. Tatum begins the book with a life example, something from his personal life to draw the reader in. It's from her early days in her career when a student asked her about the course she would be teaching next semester. His student's reaction when he responded is what makes this a simple memory with a lot of meaning. The student didn't think racism existed anymore, which Tatum says is not true at all. He goes on to tell readers about one child's perception of race with other real-life examples he learned from his own students.
