In Oakland, California, in October 1966, the Black Panther Self-Defense Party was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. The Panthers moved closer to the civil rights movement with militant self-defense against the government. Their main goal was to “establish revolutionary socialism through mass organization and community-based programs” (Baggins). The Panthers based many of their theoretical foundations on the practices of Malcolm The Panthers had no problem killing the cops because Huey Newton was arrested. After his arrest, the Panthers became enraged and worked harder to entrench themselves on the political spectrum. The FBI came to the conclusion that the Panthers had to be stopped and began to dismantle them from within, killing many of the leaders, making arrests and using psychological methods.
