I feel that the Communication Module has enriched me professionally in terms of effective communication. Furthermore, it has brought about qualitative changes in my overall communication skills, thus broadening my vision towards effective communication in the future. During the three weeks of the communication module all obstacles and weaknesses in effective public speaking, active listening and teamwork were discussed. And then, with the help of class discussions and written literature, various ways and means have been developed to overcome these obstacles. The first part of the communication module was public speaking. Before taking the communication module, I wasn't good enough at public speaking. Some of the weaknesses during public speaking included improper eye contact, static posture during the speech, excessive concentration on the presentation slides, poor voice variations, less emphasis on non-verbal gestures, etc. Ironically, I took these weaknesses for granted and never tried to realize their negative effect on my speaking. For me, public speaking simply meant saying a few words. I have never tried to establish a relationship with my audience during public speaking. Instead, I also took the audience for granted. After attending the communication module, I acquired all the knowledge needed to speak in public effectively. Now, all the dos and don'ts of effective public speaking are at your fingertips. Also, during the module, the task of giving a presentation in class on any topic of your choice was very useful. It allowed us to carefully lay out all the essential elements of an effective speech. I can now better understand the potential of teams in achieving overall organizational goals. Therefore, the communication module taught that the communication process is much more than just saying a few words. The module described communication as a process that establishes the relationship between the sender (speaker) and the recipient (listener). It is a two-way traffic that should flow smoothly to achieve its goals. Furthermore, the communication module successfully highlighted ways and means to overcome obstacles in public speaking, active listening and teamwork effectively. After attending the module, I intend to implement the knowledge acquired to effectively decipher the mental codes of individuals to achieve the desired objectives.
