Identification of an individual by class has existed in human society for a long period of time, but in today's society it proves harmful when it impacts a student's life education. They impact the academic relationships a student needs to be successful. These can occur among their peers and their teachers. When class differences become obstacles in forming these relationships, the student may become reluctant to drop out or even fail to develop interpersonal cognitive skills that place him or her behind in the real world (Jensen 2013). As stated in Hooks' "keeping close to home: class and education", that "class differences were boundaries that no one wants to face or talk about" and that "it is easier to downplay them and act as if [everyone came] from privileged environments" (Hooks 102). This example demonstrates the mindset that a lower class student develops after attending a higher class
