Betonie warned him that they would try to destroy the world. There is one person in this novel that Tayo always has to worry about, and that is Emo. In the previous paragraph I mentioned Emos spreading lies about Tayo. Emo always tries to make Tayo's life miserable. At the end of the novel Emo convinces Tayo's friends, Leroy and Harley, to turn against Tayo. When Tayo is trying to escape from Emo, he sees Leroy and Harley driving down the road. He asks them for a ride, they let him in and get him drunk. Tayo falls asleep, but when he wakes up he sees neither Leroy nor Harvey. After waking up, he goes to find his friends and hears them talking to Emo and Pinky. He realizes that his childhood friends betrayed him and are now following Emo. Once reality hits Tayo, he runs and hides in an abandoned uranium mine. Not immediately after Tayo sees Emo's car approaching the mine. Tayo notices Emo, Pinky and Leroy, but doesn't notice Harley. Emo makes a fire while Leroy and Pinky sit on a rock and drink. Afterwards, Tayo saw Emo take Harley out of the trunk of his car. Emo tied Harley to a fence and started torturing him because he was supposed to watch Tayo and didn't do his job. Even though Harley had betrayed Tayo, she still wanted to kill Emo for torturing Harley. Emo sensed that Tayo was nearby, because he started taunting him, insulting him, and telling him that what was happening to Harley was all his fault. Tayo wanted to stab Emo with the screwdriver he had in his hand and he even had the perfect opportunity but he didn't give in to his anger. Not giving in to his anger and stabbing Emo, Tayo defeated the witchcraft and completed his
