Many third-generation Hispanic Americans suffer from this even after having been more closely connected to their American roots than to their Hispanic ones. A Hispanic CNN reporter, Nick Valencia, tells us about his experience with racism in his article "My Encounter with Anti-Latino Racism." Valencia was speaking Spanish with his friends at a music festival when a white lady yelled at them, "'Go home!' she yelled at me. 'Why don't you go home to Mexico before you ruin this country like you ruined your country?' right!'” (Valencia). Valencia goes on to share how this experience was able to open his eyes to the negative and antagonistic way Hispanics are treated in the news, in political speeches, on talk radio, in everyday conversations.
