Synopsis Topic-Feminist Perspectives in Interpreter of Illnesses by Jhumpa Lahiri Week 1 Report-I have been working on author Jhumpa Lahiri's biography and researching about her. Jhumpa Lahiri's biography and her achievements have both been covered. Jhumpa Lahiri was born in London and raised in Rhode Island. His first collection of short stories, which is also the topic of my thesis "Interpreter of Diseases," was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, the PEN/Hemingway Prize, and the New Yorker Debut of the Year. I also worked on his major works. Both his novels and his short stories. I studied his work a bit just to get a feel for his writing style. His main works THE LOWLAND, UNACCUSTOMED EARTH, THE NAMESAKE. The plain is a work of art and a complex emotion; a compelling family story. UNACCUSTOMED EARTH is a magnificent new work of fiction with eight stories, longer and more complex than any other work. The namesake spans three decades and spans continents. All the while highlighting details about the characters and their created drama. week 2 report: major study and analysis of "Interpreter of Maladies". Read the first 4 stories. The first four stories are "A Temporary Matter", "When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dinner", "Interpreter of Diseases", "A True Durwan". The first story is about a couple who exchange secrets during a temporary power outage at home. The couple is trying to cope with each other after the death of their newborn first child. The female protagonist is very troubled by this incident and the worst part is that after such a tragedy she lost her ability to conceive. Shukumar finally shares the biggest secret when he comes to know that Shobha plans to leave him. Week 5 Report: In the last week I collected all the work and wrote a conclusion. Studying the feminist movement helped me understand what aspects should be considered when analyzing a feminist text. The female characters in Interpreter of Maladies have character. Some are way too bold while others are very submissive. They are all sick of different situations. The common thing about them is that they all suffer from some kind of displacement as they are all far from their homeland. There is a mix of cultures and nationalities.
