A Piece of Powell's History I must say that I have a deeper understanding of the origins of my city and all the "battles" its inhabitants had to fight . During French rule the slaves found a way to better themselves and feel somehow a part of the city even though they were oppressed, which ultimately stimulated the economy. The Spanish treated its inhabitants no better than the French, in the case of the Creoles, a group of people who had been part of the city since its founding, where it was threatened by Spanish tyranny and led to prominent Creole leaders being sentenced to death, destroying a part of New Orleans culture. Ultimately, American control ties all of these oppressions together by demonstrating that despite difficult times and the uncertainty of the outside world, the people of New Orleanians had the courage to stand beside Andrew Jackson and defend the city they loved. All in all, this piece of history offers an inside look at the spirit of New Orleans and its inhabitants, an immortal, righteous, and turbulent spirit, but a spirit that can be called
