Evolution versus creationism The debate on evolution and creationism has been going on for a long time now. When Charles Darwin spoke about the origin of species in 1859, the debate was already fully underway. The first time evolution and creationism were discussed in a court case was in the Scopes trial of 1925. Evolution was removed from textbooks and curriculum. The evolution began to creep into textbooks in 1987. Parents were appalled at the evolution of the school's teaching to students when they were raised as Christians. Creationism is a belief that Christians believe that God created everything in just six days. There is no real evidence to support this belief, except that Christians have faith in God that this actually happened. Creationism is not a form of science as it has no supporting evidence and cannot be proven that people are not well educated on both sides of the debate. For creationism, most of the time students will go to a private school where creation is taught and not evolution. As for evolution, most of the time students will go to a public school where evolution is taught and creationism is not. When taught the other side of the debate, they don't pay attention to the information. They focus on what they believe. People are not willing to go out and look for information on the other side to see if there are similarities between creationism and evolution. The debate between evolution and creationism can be very harmful to American society if it is allowed to get out of hand. When it comes to this topic, people are divided. Riots could break out and acts of vandalism could occur. People may need to be protected around the clock. It may even separate families and communities.
