I must have the mindset and motivation to push myself to do my best in college. In "Emotional Intelligence (excerpt from The World of Psychology)" Ellen Green Wood and Samuel Wood talk about people's emotional and personal intelligence through self-knowledge and the factors that affect them. They say that self-motivation, awareness of one's emotions and the ability to manage them are the key factors of personal intelligence and how to delve deeper into each factor. Green Wood and Wood state that "self-motivation refers to a strength of emotional self-control that enables a person to move forward and pursue worthwhile goals, persist in a task even when frustrated, and resist the temptation to act on impulse" (80) . For example, I set goals for myself in college, and my motivation plays a big role in keeping me on track to achieve those goals. Without my motivation to study, do homework, and read assigned readings I probably wouldn't make it this far in college to my best ability. Additionally, having the motivation to complete tasks such as essays, readings, homework and worksheets beforehand can really help in the long run because this way it is not stressful or worrying to complete them.
