When Eddie was a child, the Blue Man was part of a sideshow that was displayed at Ruby Pier. At first, Eddie has no idea how the Blue Man has affected his life. However, it is soon revealed that young Eddie was the cause of the Blue Man's untimely death. One day, Eddie was playing catch with his brother Joseph. The ball rolled into the street and little Eddie ran to catch it, nearly getting hit by a car. The Blue Man driving the car had to swerve instantly, almost hitting another car, and then finally colliding with the back of a parked truck. As a result of this terrifying experience, the Blue Man has a fatal heart attack and dies. Once Eddie hears this telling tale, he becomes enraged and begs to be reprimanded for this unwitting sin. The Blue Man teaches him that there are no random acts in life and that, following the Blue Man's death, Eddie managed to become a war veteran and live to the age of eighty-three. The Blue Man is able to make Eddie understand that, although Eddie was the reason for his death, it serves its purpose because all lives intersect and affect each other significantly. The Blue Man in Heaven slowly leads Eddie to understand that everyone is interconnected and that every event in life is critical
