Topic > Principles of Social Work Internship - 891

I should treat the internship as a job, which means being punctual, acting to a professional standard and being prepared to work and get the best I can for my service users. The internship will give me the opportunity to apply theory to practice following policies and procedures that also include health and safety. I will actively engage with service users and have direct supervision from the educator or practice supervisor. My role as a social work student intern is to learn from professionals, expand my knowledge and skills such as anti-discriminatory, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, trust and communication, this shows that there is so much to learn and gain from internships to become a successful professional. Indeed, as a student social worker, I want to take advantage of opportunities and be proactive in participating and making full use of my internship. More importantly, it is important to reflect on and welcome any feedback so that I can use this information to expand and improve myself as I progress towards becoming a professional. Gibbs' (1988) cycle of reflective practice is a good model to use for self-reflection and making changes for the future.
