Market Analysis SummaryPocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH), in the southwestern region of West Virginia in Pocahontas County (see Appendix A) covering 942 square miles, is examining the feasibility of opening a satellite health clinic (CSU-Global, 2016). PMH is a 25-bed Level 4 trauma center and has a rural health clinic located within the hospital, offering laboratory services, vaccinations, disease management and monthly specialty clinics (cardiology, podiatry and nephrology). Some of the Obstacles The county is currently facing a shortage of health care workers, only one hospital, PMH, and one nursing home, Pocahontas Center. Furthermore, the local economy is depressed; there is a substantial barrier to accessing healthcare; and the area has difficulty attracting healthcare workers. Given the shortage of health care workers, the primary care physician ratio is much higher than the national average of 8,508 to 1 in this rural community (County Health Roadmaps & Rankings, 2016).Mission. The project supports the mission, vision and goals of the organization. PMH is a federally designated rural health clinic with a mission to be the “first choice for integrated healthcare by connecting excellence through continuing education, effective collaboration, and providing exceptional customer service” (PMH, 2016). PMH is committed to excellence in providing “compassionate healthcare and promoting healthy lifestyles” and its values include: • Being a collaborative partner to improve the health of our communities • Being a leader in patient education, prevention and awareness • Use evidence-based practices in care delivery• Promote a culture that exceeds expectations• Support financial sustainability in an ever-changing environment...... middle of paper......st the system that allows a comfortable speed for the first year. As CMS points out, providers can set their own pace for participation in MACRA, with a final ruling expected November 1, 2016 that will address the burdens of over-reporting, a unique issue facing PMH as a small, rural facility and how technology can help patient care ( Jayanthi, 2016). SWOT Analysis By determining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in a company, as Frue, (2014) notes, the organization can have a better understanding of “pain points, customer needs and how to market more effectively" (par.1). A SWOT analysis is effective in determining the obstacles and opportunities that PMHs are likely to face in opening a satellite clinic. The goal is to gather information to determine or ensure that the clinic is sustainable in the long term. (See below or Appendix D)
