This was a great development because people learned to use their surroundings (water) to their advantage. The reason agriculture grew is because of the fertile soil. Rivers were the most important part in how the first people lived. Later in the article I will explain the agriculture, water sources and transportation within the Nile River, Huang He (Yellow) River and Indus River. The world's longest river which still stretches 4,160 miles today, the Nile, was the first river civilization to live off a major water source. The one thing that surprises everyone about this river is that it flows north and not south. First, agriculture was brought to the two civilizations on the Nile (Egypt and Nubia) by Sudanese farmers and herders.
