Topic > An analysis of the Socratic seminar flop from a personal perspective

I performed very poorly in this Socratic seminar for several reasons, including unpreparedness and the general chaos of the Socratic seminar. Next time I'm asked to take a Socratic seminar I should make sure I'm prepared, plus I should probably take better notes on deadlines in general. As much as I would like to use my illness as an excuse for my absent-mindedness, the truth is that I have no one to blame but myself. Say no to plagiarism. I had brought my books to the Socratic event which was supposed to take place on Thursday and Friday 12th and 13th May. However, when the Socratic didn't happen, I simply put it out of my mind and forgot about it. I should have paid attention in class and heard about the changes, or I could have even asked my classmates why the Socratic didn't happen. If I had done any of these things I probably would have been prepared for the Socratic and would have done much better. I also generally don't do well at all in Socratic because of all the chaos as students try to get the topic to veer in their direction so they can use the quotation marks required for a 100. The focus of Socratic in my opinion was too volatile. By the time I had gathered my thoughts and had something to say, the topic was already in a completely different place. The Socratic rubric encourages taking the current topic, connecting it to an overarching central theme, and then focusing it on something where you can use your quote. Then, another student takes the new theme and connects it to the overall theme and so on. The only time I got good results was when I also followed this "flowchart", however, being unprepared with quotes, I found it very difficult to actually discuss my thoughts amidst the chaos. I should always be prepared and always keep deadlines in mind. I also struggled with this problem earlier in the year, having to read tons of pages because I had stupidly procrastinated and forgotten the due date. Throughout my life in general and even at school I will be more aware of what is happening around me rather than being indifferent to it. I will be prepared for my future Socratic homework and review it well before the actual Socratic date so as not to be caught by surprise.
