These fall into the areas of relationship building and strategic thinking. According to Rath, those who fall under the umbrella of relationship building can keep a group together, while those who fall under the umbrella of strategic thinking focus on possibilities. The first, Input, states that I like to collect new information, especially about wars and the past. conflicts. The evaluation stated that people in this category are often sought for guidance and can offer a new perspective on the issue. I see it in myself. I have always valued learning and knowledge. I know I can never know everything, but I want to do my best to try to understand as much as possible. I like history and learning about past wars and conflicts. The second, connection, suggests that I can build bonds between different people, that I can bring people together. Affirm that I speak openly about my beliefs and values and respect every human being. It states that I discover areas of commonality and express those common bonds. Rath says I may get frustrated when others don't see the connection I've made. According to Gallup StrengthsFinder, people who have the Connectedness talent can see connections between things and see the world as an interconnected tapestry. I agree with this to some extent. I see everything as connected. I believe that all lives and events influence each other, I respect all human beings and I even get angry when others don't show the same respect. Even so, I'm not sure I can bring people together and help them see their connections. I'm not sure I've ever tried to do that. I'll try to help people understand that connections exist, but I don't think I've ever tried to build bonds in a group like that. The third, Intellection, suggests, once again, that I like to gather information and think on a deep level. He states that I most likely spend time reading and am silent during conversations. I believe this is also accurate. I love reading and always have, although my preference on the subject may change. I like learning and gathering information, even during conversations and in public. I prefer to listen and observe rather than talk. The fourth, Developer, states that I can see and assist the potential in others. Those with the developer trait can offer support and help encourage others. Those with the developer trait can be a good mentor or guide. I agree, I feel like I can recognize when someone has a talent or strength in a certain area. I try to offer support to others who feel anxious, exhausted or tired. I often find myself listening to others as they vent about problems and I help them find the positives or simply help them find the next step. The last one, the context, states once again that I most likely like the story and like looking at thepast to know the present and the future. It states that I want to understand how past events shape our lives. Those with the developer trait enjoy asking questions of others and researching historical events. I agree with this, but only to a point. I like history and I like to research historical events to understand how and why things are the way they are. I like timelines of events, but I don't always ask these questions when meeting someone for the first time. It's not that I don't want to know the answers, but it keeps me from asking these questions due to social anxiety. All of this suggests that I am a person who gathers information and uses that information to bring people together and help them reach their potential. I believe that, given what I know about myself, I can do all of these things. I also think I have a lot of things holding me back from doing these things. I'm not sure I've ever used these strengths in a leadership role as I don't often step into roles that would put me in a leadership position. I use these strengths in my work, where I have to come into contact with young people and families on a daily basis. I am in a position of authority with the families I work with and try to help young people get to a better place where they are not involved in the justice system. I don't think this job is classified as a leadership position, but I imagine it could be. Predominant Leadership Style My predominant leadership style would be participative. I like to get input from other group members before making a decision. I prefer not to make the decision, but I will if necessary. Before making even the smallest decisions that don't affect anyone else, I like to get input from other people. I believe the benefit of using this leadership style is that it is a way to get many perspectives and everyone feels included in the decision-making process. I believe this leadership style can reduce complaints within a group as everyone feels like they contributed to the decision. I often use this style at work, I ask family and young people what they think is needed and what they want to happen. I also ask my supervisor and colleagues for advice on cases. The disadvantage of the participative leadership style is that it does not work well in an emergency situation. Sometimes decisions need to be made quickly and there isn't time for a lot of input. I also feel that it could lead to a situation where the decision is postponed or put aside in the search for more and more prospects. Managerial Limitations There are many limitations that I see in myself. Sometimes I'm too quiet, I don't always speak when I need to. I'm not decisive. I hate making decisions and I'm afraid of making the wrong decisions. I am not patient, I find myself easily frustrated with those who don't see the world the same way I do. I also suffer from social anxiety, which prevents me from talking to others both in individual and group settings. I believe this limitation may have its usefulness. I hear more than I speak and can determine things about others by listening, which can help me connect with them. I am constantly working to overcome these things. Sometimes I just have to get past them and do what needs to be done, but there are limits. I have tried counseling in the past to deal with these things, but I don't currently. I know these limitations may always be present, but I hope to recognize in myself when they prevent me from helping others and impede progress so I can work around them.
