Tesla Motors is an American automotive and energy storage company that designs, manufactures, and sells electric cars. Tesla is changing the way people and other auto companies see the future of transportation. In a world with such high demand for alternatives to fossil fuel emissions, Tesla discovered an opportunity and took advantage of it. The company produces full-scale electric luxury sports cars. There are large positive externalities resulting from the creation of Tesla, however there are also some negative aspects. Where are these cars produced? What will happen to the batteries once the car is disposed of? Is electricity consumption really that clean? Or are fossil fuel emissions being shifted to electricity producers? What kind of infrastructure will be needed when society has a high capacity of electric cars to charge? Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? This paradigm thrives on capitalism, as it is the driving force of progress and globalization. It is also capitalism, as I discussed in another article of mine, that creates a great disparity between rich and poor, between developed and undeveloped nations. I argued that the neoliberal paradigm must be forgotten and a new system designed. People need to change the way we think in systems and create a grassroots movement for sustainability in personal lives. This way we will be able to implement a bottom-up system. Tesla, however, is proving my idea wrong. Tesla, through innovation and technology, has created through capitalism the demand for environmentally friendly cars (I will argue later if the product is actually environmentally friendly/sustainable). At this point, the capitalist mental model has created incentives for many people to want their product. The most surprising thing is that Tesla allocates about $0 for advertising. They rely on consumer trust and popularity through rewards and recognition. The idea that the neoliberal paradigm is destructive may be a little too extreme. The current paradigm is slowly sparking a movement and could be the beginning of a capitalist system that actually provides benefits to people and the environment. Sure, we've allowed climate change to reach a dangerous level, but now that technology is focused on creating sustainable, environmentally friendly products, it could paint a beautiful picture of a sustainable future. Technology will be the main player in the advancement of human capabilities towards sustainability. While it may not be necessary to change the entire system, technology will still be needed to adapt the current path we are on. Fossil fuel emissions are undoubtedly causing climate change. Without any adjustments, we will face an existential crisis. The technology that Tesla has created and implemented could be the beginning of sustainable technology. Technology can create a new system when applied in society and gradually change goals towards sustainability. While the motivations behind the movement will vary (capitalism will be the driver, not sustainable goals), sustainability will be a positive externality. It doesn't matter why or how we achieve sustainability, it only matters what we do. What should we check forachieving sustainability: the economy or society? Initially, I believed that social control and change would affect the way people live their lives, changing the economy with it. However, with Tesla creating a demand for its product, I see the economy influencing society and the environment. People tend to want a product because it is beautiful, it is a good product or even because it is fashionable. Some people may want a Tesla for the idea of sustainability and want to do their fair share in reducing emissions and climate change. Most likely, most Tesla owners wanted the car simply because it is a symbol of wealth. It is capitalism that drives these trends, not sustainable goals or motivations. Once again, until sustainability is achieved, motivations are irrelevant. Society will follow economic trends, which means that the economy has a key value in creating a sustainable world. Is Tesla the ultimate solution to sustainability? Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, believes his technology will create a world of sustainable transportation. This may very well be true, however there are issues that need to be addressed first. The biggest concern I have about Tesla being a sustainable solution is the large amount of electricity used to power the car. The energy industry still relies primarily on natural gas and coal-fired power plants; both contribute extremely high emissions to climate change. As the use of Tesla products increases, there is a shift in natural gas emissions from cars to power plants. There are no major studies (that I could find) showing that the Tesla's electric consumption reduces the emissions footprint for owners compared to those of a gas-powered car. As technology advances and renewable energy becomes more efficient and more widely used, this will become an issue. Perhaps this represents an even more important reason to push towards the implementation of renewable energy sources in our country. However, at the moment, Tesla cannot be a reliable tool towards sustainability due to its high electricity consumption. A quick note mentioned above, there may also be a big problem with the electric car industry as a whole due to battery disposal. These batteries contain chemicals that are extremely harmful to the environment and (no pun intended) there could be major pollution impacts in the future. The other issue that I find troubling is that Teslas are only owned by a very, very small fraction. of our country. Not only are there approximately 125,000 cars in the world, but many average citizens also cannot afford to buy them. The S and X models cost well over $100,000. The brand new Model 3 is around $30,000, which means that hopefully, soon enough, the average car owner will be able to afford the car. Prices need to drop further for large-scale implementation to occur. Otherwise, sustainability is impossible. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom article from our expert writers now. The Bystander Effect, essentially, is the phenomenon in which individuals offer no means of help to a victim when other people are present. This tends to be because they think other people will do what they were supposed to do. Initially, the idea of the Bystander effect and Tesla seems.
