Nicholas D. Kristof is wrong in his quote about gender equality. He talks about the “moral challenges” of each century, which means the main problem each century faces. Furthermore, he states that gender equality is the main problem we are facing in today's society compared to slavery back then. All stated moral challenges are conceived as morally wrong. The reason I disagree with this is that gender inequality has been present in almost every century that humans have lived. It has always been a major problem and not many solutions have been made. For example, in previous centuries there were many male emperors in power. There were rarely any women, and compared to today's society, there aren't many women in leadership roles in companies. For a better example of leadership roles, we can look to the presidency of the United States. Every single president of the United States over the years has been male. Now, this has happened throughout the ages and there are many reasons for this. People might think that women don't have what it takes, but if you take a look at education, women outperform men in standardized tests, study habits, and more. Furthermore, if women were involved in leadership roles, they would contribute more than men. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Get an original essay In today's society, I believe that gender equality has been better than ever compared to other historical periods. There were new groups involved, as well as new laws. Recently, I was curious to ask my mother about her family and she said that all of her sisters stopped studying after middle school. However, his brothers continued their studies until high school. This simply shows that gender inequality is present in other countries too. Today there are more women than men in universities. Some might say that the only moral challenge of this century is gender equality. This is because slavery and other moral challenges were resolved. When I say resolved, it actually means greatly reduced. Other moral challenges, such as prostitution, are linked to gender inequality and this makes it a huge problem. You see women being exploited in many ways, as shown in “Half the Sky.” This shows that this is the main problem we are facing, but it doesn't mean it can't be stopped. As Kristoff mentioned, this is morally wrong, but ultimately it's still a problem we need to solve. Problems like slavery are still happening today, but in a different form, linked to gender inequality. This shows that gender inequality has always been a problem. This is the beginning of gender inequality, and it takes more than one small step to stop it. I'm not saying it will always be there, but the story speaks for itself.
