Topic > My experience in machine learning and finance

As the complexities of the financial world continue to grow, so too do the mechanisms and solutions that aim to manage financial risks. In particular, IT techniques have emerged at the forefront of quantifying financial risk. While a degree in Economics has helped lay a solid foundation in Statistics and Mathematics, I find myself at a disadvantage and also unprepared to pursue a long-term career in financial risk management due to limited exposure to level-level programming. university. Driven by a desire to develop skills in the quantitative aspect of risk management, I found myself well positioned to earn a master's degree that will adequately prepare me to become a financial risk management subject matter expert. UCL's MSc in Financial Risk Management impresses me for several reasons. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? UCL attracts passionate people from all over the world and earning my Masters provides an opportunity that allows me to interact with like-minded people, immerse myself in cross-cultural sharing and learn and understand more about cultures that cannot be found in Singapore. All of this, I believe, will help foster a long-term relationship between me and my peers. Additionally, I find that the flexibility of the curriculum specifically meets my needs. Although the main modules focus more on the theoretical aspect, the breadth and diversity of the optional courses available in the various departments will allow me to work on technical aspects as well. I am particularly attracted to modules such as Statistical Computing and Machine Learning with Applications in Finance, both of which will allow me to gain exposure to statistical programming software that is widely used in the industry to quantify risk and perform large data analysis tasks. More importantly, I am particularly attracted to the summer internship that forms the basis of the thesis. My work experiences so far have led me to realize that I am more of a "hands-on" person. The summer internship is therefore the perfect learning opportunity for me. Equipped with the newly acquired skills and knowledge, I will have the opportunity to learn from leading industry professionals and also be able to work on real projects that I hope will not only benefit the company alone, but also industry-wide. Therefore, the summer internship is, for me, the best way in which I can direct my learning towards the most effective outcome.
