The only problem was that they hated each other's ideals. The old saying “two sides of the same coin” is nowhere better personified than this. With the federalists led by Alexander Hamilton they thought of a big government, a strong and central government in which each state submitted to the laws given to it. On the flip side is Thomas Jefferson, the leader of the Democratic Republicans who believes that more local government at the state level along with strict interpretations of the Declaration of Independence would make the nation prosper. With a common goal in mind, each side's opinions were tremendously different. It is easy to agree with both sides, because both sides bring valid arguments in their ideology, however, the federalist approach led by Alexander Hamilton was extremely more viable in that era.
