Every day you encounter multiple situations of social interaction. The main social interaction I encounter is the college roommate situation. This social interaction is one that I constantly analyze and observe. So it can be assumed that to effectively study/research this situation the appropriate research method to use would be the participant observation (fieldwork) method. In this particular roommate situation there are three individuals, to keep their private lives private their names would not be revealed. As for this “roommate ship” there are two females and one male, female 1 and male are cousins and where is the initial pair of roommates. Later, female 2, female 1's friends moved in and completed this trio. The duration of this social situation has lasted for four years and has become a primary group. So that they have become a support system for each other and have a sense of responsibility for each other. Additionally, the housemates spend a significant amount of time together. By spending so much time together, the roommates have learned that they have a different social structure than other roommate situations. For example, they feel free to come into their home screaming and excited whenever they feel like it. Once individuals enter the house it is not uncommon to let out a scream. Unlike when they go to the grocery store, they follow the social structure that is in play in the grocery store. Although Female 1 and Male are from the poor working class and Female 2 is from the lower middle class, all according to the Gilbert and Kahl model. There is a commonality between them when it comes to social class. All three graduated from high school, were accepted to Pennsylvania University halfway through... to learn what would be acceptable to do due to males' devotion to religion. Since most college students engage in deviant behavior for females, partying and drinking are common. To date they have understood how to be respectful of each other's choices. As mentioned at the beginning, Participant Observation would be an effective method to study this “roommate” situation. This is a good strategy because any of the housemates can execute it and give the opportunity to be directly involved. For example, if you were to participate in a Participation Observation specific to this social situation. Could you see what effect living with new people has on your behavior and attitudes? Participant Observation gives the person access to the group they wish to study. they would be real results because the participants would be in their normal environment.
