Topic > Modern Horror Author: Stephen King - 967

Stephen King is a famous writer known for his horror novels; nowadays he is considered a successful writer of modern horror fiction. “His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide, and many have been adapted into feature films, television films, and comics, including Stand by Me, Misery, The Green Mile, and Dreamcatcher.” King, (460). He has received numerous awards, including Bram Stoker, World Fantasy, British Fantasy since 1970. “Why we crave horror films” is one of his writings that I would like to talk about. In his essay he demonstrates that we all possess a certain degree of madness in our psyche. However, he considers it acceptable that we do not give in to this madness. It also shows another reason, and that is that we want to know how scared we are, the last reason, it gives us the interest of watching horror movies. In personal opinion, these are all the main points that the author wants to convey to the reader; I personally agree with his statements about testing courage and having fun when people watch thriller movies. However, I do not agree with his point of view on the reaction of the madness within all of us; his reasoning is not convincing. “We are all mentally ill.” (King, 460) King states. We are all able to hide that madness in our minds better than mental health patients. This is not true, and it is not entirely convincing because if we all have mental problems, what will our society be like, for example, when people talk excessively to themselves, are afraid of everything around them, laugh or cry all day without checking. This means they don't behave normally or think like others. According to some dictionaries, I read the definition of mentally ill or mentally disordered, it is gen...... middle of the paper...... first episode; October 31, 2010 to date 2014; four years is not a short time to watch movies or shows, but I and many people continue to watch them until now, in fact, this horror show still has millions of people watching and waiting; this is fantastic. It's because there is interesting and attractive content that they enjoy and look at how good people could control violence and conservative thinking. In conclusion, Stephen King's essay gave us the answers as to why we crave horror films, except that in my opinion we are all crazy, as explained. We can see that we want to see horror films in the same way as other types of comedies, dramas, and science fiction. Horror films let emotions run wild, like screaming as loudly as possible; scary but safe and fun. People can know how much fear they are and the fact is that horror movies are becoming popular entertainment nowadays.
