If there is one topic that will spark debate among PC gamers today, it is piracy and its economic impact on the gaming industry. Almost everyone has an opinion on the subject, ranging from complete acceptance and support of piracy to complete disgust and disapproval. In recent years, since the SOPA and PIPA laws were proposed in Congress, the issue has reached its critical mass, with a different PC game developer every other day blaming piracy as a current danger to the industry. Having played games almost all my life, I must confess that I am quite disturbed reading the countless discussions and articles about piracy. Discussions about PC platform piracy and DRM have been filled with uninformed opinions with illogical excuses. This has caused hysteria and alarmism making it almost impossible to have a civil discussion on the issue. While it is quite difficult to obtain reliable data on piracy and its impacts, the challenge increases further when both parties have a vested interest in spreading misinformation on piracy-related issues....
