One argument concludes that while there may be unequal pay in a given workplace, equal pay has nothing to do with gender. Kate O'Beirne, an author addressing the feminist movement, states in her novel, "The claim that women face widespread pay discrimination is a myth." Instead, she argues that the idea is simply a tool used to revive the feminist movement. He argues that, since the Equal Pay Act of 1963, it is illegal for any company not to pay female workers equally compared to male workers if they do the same work. While this might be a valid point, it doesn't mean that companies won't break the law to take the cheapest route. In 2014, it was found that women working full time were paid 79% of what men earned. The gender gap has increased since the 1970s, but has slowed since then. Progression does not mean resolution; the gap has not been fully closed.
