About Chennakesava SanctuaryThe Chennakesava Sanctuary is one of the most beautiful testimonies built using delicate soapstone. The ancient sacred place at Velapuri, in line with the Hoysala period, is famous for the 48 pillars cut into different outlines. Chennakesava or Master Vishnu is the main deity of the Chennakesava Shrine complex. The shrine was sanctified to verify the triumph of Talkad ruler Vishnuvardhana over the Cholas during 1117. Elephant sculptures, scenes from the Puranas, Upanishads and legends of the Ramayana and Mahabharata attract the attention of vacationers. Some different attractions of the complex are the models of Madanakai maidens and the carvings at Navaranga. Next to the sanctuary, there are some places of worship in the rectangular complex called the veranda. Most of the complex is in remains containing a pillared hypostyle lobby (navaranga), a square vestibule (antale) and a starry vimana.
