Human beings are undeniably trained and programmed to judge others based on race, gender, and appearance. Unfortunately, women are stuck in all categories of judgment. Jean Kilbourne, an award-winning producer of documentaries on images of women in advertising, explains that when the media and advertising exploit femininity for personal gain, women run the risk of suffering a lot of harm because this promotes objectification, which will ultimately lead to violence. An African-American feminist, Joan Morgan, expresses her further discomfort with the constant sexism in rap lyrics that advocate violence and anger towards women. "'Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt': Advertising and Violence," by Jean Kilbourne and "From Fly-Girls to Bitches and Hos," by Joan Morgan make compelling arguments about the ways society often portrays women as a lower gender than males. Our society today is still frighteningly incapable of seeing a woman's femininity as outdated, forcing women to endure the suffering of imposed gender roles and excessive expectations from our society, families and the media. Women are continually objectified by the media in advertising to be used as a tool for inappropriate sexual fantasies, leading to violence against women. Advertisements often use sex to show acts of power and hostility towards women of all ages (594). For the infamous Super Bowl Sunday commercials, companies like Pepsi Max and Snickers devalue women in their ads to attract consumers. For the Pepsi Max commercial, the scene took place in a nice restaurant where a man and a beautiful woman have a romantic date, while the woman in the commercial wondered if the date was right for her, all she could think of think was his desire to sleep with her until... middle of paper......n? Our society does not seem to notice their offense against women, which still continues due to the inattention that people tend to ignore when faced with the effects of cruel expectations towards women. Due to gender roles and expectations, women have suffered tremendously at all ages. There are numerous difficulties and disadvantages that women face in everyday life. The cruel judgments, discrimination and objectification towards women demonstrate that our society has created a difficult world for women to live in. It's time for changes, a brake so that all women can live life freely without worries and suffering. Public opinion must recognize the struggles endured by women and seize the opportunity to look inside the world of women to prevent the torture of all women by the media, advertising, families and judgments of society..
